Hi there; as you already know, I’m Pavle Ristić, and I had the pleasure of exploring one of the most fascinating places in the world – Istanbul. This Turkish delight is a true gem, with its stunning architecture, rich history, and mouth-watering cuisine. From the Topkapi Palace to the Grand Bazaar, I had the opportunity to see and experience so much. So join me as I reminisce about my adventures through the bustling streets of Istanbul and share my tips and recommendations for anyone planning to visit this incredible city. Turkish Food (Türk yemeği)
When it comes to Turkish cuisine, there’s no shortage of delicious dishes to try. From kebabs to mezze, there’s something for everyone’s palate. Traditional Turkish cuisine is known for its bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and rich history. One of the most famous Turkish dishes is baklava, a sweet pastry made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and syrup or honey. The rich and decadent flavors of baklava are the perfect way to end a meal in Istanbul. If you’re looking to explore more of the Turkish food scene, there are some must-try dishes that you won’t want to miss. One of my personal favorites is künefe, a dessert made with shredded phyllo dough, a layer of soft white cheese, and syrup. It’s crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside, and the perfect combination of sweet and savory.
For a more upscale dining experience, I highly recommend checking out Nusret restaurant. This internationally renowned restaurant has locations around the world, but the original is in Istanbul. Nusret is famous for its grilled meats, especially the steak, which is served with a dramatic flair. The chef, Nusret Gökçe, is known for his theatrical seasoning technique, where he sprinkles salt onto the meat with a flick of his wrist.
Without mentioning the country’s incredible sweet treats, no discussion of Turkish food would be complete. In addition to baklava and künefe, there are so many other desserts to try, such as Turkish delight, a gummy candy flavored with rosewater or lemon, and şekerpare, a sweet and crumbly cookie made with semolina flour. Overall, Turkish cuisine is a highlight of any trip to Istanbul. From traditional dishes to modern twists, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re indulging in a decadent dessert like baklava or savoring a juicy steak/ burger at Nusret, Turkish food is an experience you won’t soon forget.

The street is around 1.4 km long and is busy around the clock, making it an excellent spot for shopping, dining, and entertainment. The street is lined with numerous shops, boutiques, and brand stores, and visitors can enjoy traditional Turkish treats like baklava and simit from street vendors. Istiklal Caddesi is also the hub for Turkish street musicians and performers, providing an excellent opportunity for visitors to experience the local culture firsthand.
Sultan Ahmet Mosque and Grand Bazaar (Sultan Ahmet Camii ve Kapalıçarşı)
