Introduction

Graduating with a BS in Business Administration with Minor in Marketing has been a significant milestone in my life, marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and resilience. My journey began at Riverside City College in California and continued at Ottawa University of Arizona in Phoenix, where I achieved summa cum laude honors. Along the way, I faced numerous challenges and gained invaluable experiences that shaped who I am today. This post aims to share my academic journey, the hurdles I overcame, the skills I acquired, and my plans for the future, offering insights and advice to current and future students.

The Beginning: Why Business Administration?

Choosing Business Administration and Management was driven by my passion for understanding the complexities of the business world. I aspired to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to lead and manage organizations effectively. My initial expectations were to acquire a strong foundation in business principles and to open doors to diverse career opportunities. Business Administration offered a broad spectrum of possibilities, from marketing and finance to entrepreneurship and strategic management. I was particularly drawn to the idea of making a tangible impact in the business community and contributing to the growth and success of organizations.

The Academic Journey

My academic journey started at Riverside City College, a community college in California. The first two years were instrumental in building my academic foundation. During my time there, I was honored to receive a one-time scholarship for best international students, which was a significant encouragement. After completing my initial studies at Riverside, I transferred to Ottawa University of Arizona in Phoenix. The transition was seamless, and I found myself thriving in a new environment. Graduating with summa cum laude honors, with a GPA over 3.90, was a testament to my hard work and dedication. Throughout my college years, I was also actively involved in playing water polo, which taught me discipline, teamwork, and time management.

Challenges as an International Student

Being an international student came with its own set of challenges. Navigating visa requirements, adapting to a new culture, and living alone away from my family were daunting at times. The sense of isolation and homesickness was real, but these experiences also made me stronger and more independent. From the moment I arrived in the USA, I was keen on gaining work experience. Balancing work and studies was not easy, but it was a necessary part of my journey. My most recent job as a student was working in the campus cafeteria. This experience taught me the value of hard work, time management, and the importance of balancing multiple responsibilities. Working in the cafeteria allowed me to develop essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and customer service. It also provided a steady income that helped support my studies and living expenses. Despite the challenges, working while studying enriched my college experience and prepared me for the professional world.

Skills and Knowledge Gained

Throughout my studies, I gained a plethora of skills and knowledge. Courses in marketing, finance, and management provided a solid foundation in business principles. Group projects and case studies offered practical experience, allowing me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Playing water polo also instilled a strong sense of discipline and teamwork. Currently, I am working as a program manager for Topaz Water Polo Club. This role allows me to combine my passion for water polo with my management skills. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and am committed to continuous learning and professional development.
